Corten steel oxidizes on purpose. The protective patina that forms is the finish, not a failure — over the first season outdoors, the 16x12x12 planter transitions from its initial steel grey through warm amber and burnt sienna into a deep earthy brown that holds its color without any maintenance, sealing, or painting.
The welds on this planter are on the inside of the box. Most Corten planters show the welds on the exterior corners — we moved them inside to create a clean, unbroken exterior edge. The outside of the box is smooth. The inside handles the structural work.
